Commerce Minister holds high-level talks in Singapore to boost trade, investment, technology and business cooperation

Singapore, 20th Aug: Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal held a series of high-level bilateral and business engagements in Singapore on Thursday, aimed at strengthening the India-Singapore economic partnership and expanding cooperation in trade, investment, technology and business.

The visit began with a meeting between Goyal and Singapore Prime Minister Lawrence Wong at the Istana, followed by his participation in the 4th India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable (ISMR) and the 4th India-Singapore Business Roundtable (ISBR) held at Hotel Shangri-La.

The roundtable discussions focused on enhancing bilateral economic engagement and identifying new opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation. The meetings concluded with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU).

During his visit, Goyal also held Government-to-Business (G2B) meetings with senior representatives from the Global Finance & Technology Network (GFTN) and Keppel Infrastructure. Discussions centred on collaboration in agri-exports, Global Capability Centre (GCC)-based commercial parks, fintech and sustainable infrastructure.

In another key engagement, Goyal, accompanied by Singapore Minister of State for Foreign Affairs and Trade & Industry Gan Siow Huang, visited the APEDA-FairPrice initiative at City Square Mall. The visit highlighted growing agricultural trade and stronger market linkages between India and Singapore.

Later in the day, the Commerce Minister addressed the India-Singapore Business Forum, organised by FICCI at the INSEAD Asia Campus. He also participated in a fireside chat titled “India in the New Global Growth Equation: Growth and Opportunity for Businesses in Asia and the World,” followed by an interactive session with members of the business community.

According to the government, the engagements reinforced the growing momentum in the India-Singapore economic partnership and reaffirmed India’s commitment to strengthening trade, investment, technology collaboration and business-to-business linkages.

The Indian delegation at the 4th India-Singapore Ministerial Roundtable included Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal, and Minister of State for Commerce Jitin Prasada. The Singapore delegation was led by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Trade and Industry Gan Kim Yong, along with senior ministers responsible for national security, foreign affairs, digital development, transport and finance.
