Doval Heads to Beijing for Boundary Talks Ahead of Xi’s India Visit

WASHININGTON – National Security Advisor Ajit Doval is expected to visit Beijing on Monday for the 25th round of Special Representatives talks on resolving the boundary issue ahead of Chinese President Xi Jinping’s likely India visit next month during the BRICS summit on September 12, as per media reports.
Media reported that the two-day visit aimed at laying the groundwork for Xi’s visit, NSA Doval will meet Foreign Minister Wang Yi.
Xi is expected to participate in the BRICS Summit 2026 scheduled to be held in India on September 12, according to media reports.
It will be Xi’s first visit to India in 7 years and came a year after PM Modi visited China.
XI is also likely to hold a bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Modi, media reports stated.
Beijing has not confirmed the visit and there has been no official word from New Delhi either.
PM Modi held bilateral talks with Chinese President Xi Jinping on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Tianjin, China in September last year.
Both leaders had welcomed the positive momentum and steady progress in bilateral relations since their last meeting in Kazan in October 2024.
They reaffirmed that the two countries were development partners and not rivals, and that their differences should not turn into disputes.
Two leaders noted with satisfaction the successful disengagement last year and the maintenance of peace and tranquility along the border areas since then.
The bilateral meeting between PM Modi and Chinese President Xi Jinping underscored the commitment of both nations to strengthen their relationship based on mutual trust, respect, and sensitivity.
Xi had stressed that both nations need to handle their relationship from a strategic and long-term perspective.
