LONAVALA, 18th Sept: Vice-President C. P. Radhakrishnan on Friday addressed the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of the Gordhandas Seksaria College of Yoga and Cultural Synthesis at Kaivalyadhama in Lonavala, Maharashtra, and highlighted the institution’s contribution to yoga education, research and cultural synthesis.

Radhakrishnan congratulated the college on completing 75 years of service and noted that the occasion coincides with Kaivalyadhama completing a century of its work in yoga.

Recalling Swami Kuvalayananda, who founded Kaivalyadhama in 1924, the Vice-President said he pioneered the scientific study of yoga when the practice was largely viewed as mystical. He stressed the importance of preserving such legacies for future generations, saying, “Yoga is not for one generation; it is for every generation to come.”

The Vice-President also highlighted the growing global practice of yoga and referred to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts to take its message to the international stage.

He said rapid technological development and digital connectivity have made modern life increasingly fast-paced, while yoga provides an opportunity to pause, concentrate, reflect and reconnect with oneself. According to him, yoga helps bridge the gap between the mind and body and supports physical and mental well-being.

Addressing students, Radhakrishnan said India’s youth have considerable energy, talent and ambition, which can reach their full potential when combined with discipline and awareness. Referring to Patanjali’s concept of chitta vritti nirodhah, he said the ability to calm and focus the mind is particularly relevant amid constant notifications and information overload.

He said initiatives undertaken with a commitment to public welfare can create legacies that continue to benefit future generations. He described Kaivalyadhama’s century-long journey as an example of such an enduring legacy.

The Vice-President paid tribute to Swami Kuvalayananda and Seth Makhanlal Seksaria and congratulated the trustees, principal, faculty, students and alumni of the college.

During the programme, he also launched Yoga Explained – Learn From the Master by O. P. Tiwari. He later interacted with students and encouraged them to cultivate discipline, concentration and self-awareness through yoga.

Maharashtra Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, former Union Minister and Chairman of Kaivalyadhama Global Suresh Prabhu, CEO of Kaivalyadhama Global Subodh Tiwari, Chief Patron Rakesh Seksaria, faculty members, students, alumni and other dignitaries attended the event.
