New Delhi, 11th Oct: Delhi Police has cautioned citizens against rising forms of cyber fraud, including fake bank calls, OTP theft, fraudulent KYC updates, UPI scams and social media account hacking, as part of its cybercrime awareness initiative.

According to the information shared by Delhi Police, fraudsters often impersonate bank officials to obtain one-time passwords (OTPs), use fake customer-care numbers to access banking details and trick people into installing remote-access applications such as TeamViewer, QuickSupport and AnyDesk.

Other common tactics include fake electricity-bill updates, fraudulent matrimonial websites, online loan scams, bogus investment offers, phishing emails and impersonation of courier company employees or police officers. Cybercriminals may also hack WhatsApp, Facebook and Instagram accounts to deceive users and solicit money.

Delhi Police has advised citizens not to share OTPs, passwords, banking credentials or sensitive personal information with unknown persons. People should avoid clicking suspicious links, scanning unverified QR codes, installing applications at the request of strangers or entering a UPI PIN to receive money.

The police have also urged citizens to use strong passwords, enable two-factor authentication on social media accounts, avoid banking transactions over public Wi-Fi and obtain customer-care numbers only through official websites.

Anyone who becomes a victim of cyber fraud should immediately call the national cybercrime helpline 1930 and register a complaint at cybercrime.gov.in. Victims should also inform their banks without delay to report unauthorised transactions and seek assistance.
