Chennai, 4th May: The Congress-DMK alliance opened its account early in the Tamil Nadu Assembly Election 2026 as the first confirmed results were declared during the ongoing counting process.

The Indian National Congress registered its first victory with P. Viswanathan winning the Melur constituency in Madurai district. He secured 60,080 votes, defeating his rival by a margin of 2,724 votes after completion of all counting rounds.

Meanwhile, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam posted two decisive wins in the Nilgiris region. In Gudalur, DMK candidate Dhravidamani M. secured a commanding victory with a margin exceeding 22,000 votes, while in Coonoor, M. Raju won comfortably by over 8,000 votes.

These early results indicate strong performance by the alliance in the hill districts, where tribal and plantation worker communities play a key electoral role.

Tamil Nadu, which has 234 Assembly seats with a majority mark of 118, is witnessing a complex multi-cornered contest this time.

The broader electoral battle continues between emerging force TVK led by actor Vijay, the DMK-led alliance, and the AIADMK-led front, with trends still evolving across constituencies.

As counting progresses, more results are expected through the day, which will determine whether the state sees a clear mandate or a fragmented verdict.
