New Delhi, 22nd Oct: Delhi’s air quality remained in the ‘poor’ category on Thursday, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded at 226, according to the latest figures provided.

The capital recorded its first ‘poor’ air quality day of the season on Wednesday, when the AQI reached 245, its highest level in 100 days. The deterioration prompted authorities to invoke Stage I of the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) across Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR).

Post-Dussehra Pollution in Focus
The decline in air quality followed Dussehra celebrations, during which Ravan effigies packed with firecrackers were burnt at several locations across Delhi-NCR. However, no direct link has been established between the celebrations and the deterioration in air quality.

Under the AQI classification, readings between zero and 50 are considered ‘good’, 51–100 ‘satisfactory’, 101–200 ‘moderate’, 201–300 ‘poor’, 301–400 ‘very poor’ and 401–500 ‘severe’.

Weather Remains Mostly Clear
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) forecast mainly clear skies for Thursday. The minimum temperature settled at 19.7 degrees Celsius, 1.7 degrees above the seasonal average, while the maximum temperature was expected to hover around 32 degrees Celsius.

Relative humidity stood at 89 per cent at 8.30 am, the IMD said.
