New Delhi, 15th June: The Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) on Monday successfully conducted the flight-test of the indigenously developed Long Range Land Attack Cruise Missile (LRLACM) from Dr APJ Abdul Kalam Island off the coast of Odisha.
According to the Ministry of Defence, all mission objectives were achieved during the test, with data captured and verified through multiple tracking instruments deployed by the Integrated Test Range (ITR), Chandipur.
The successful trial marks another milestone in India’s efforts to strengthen self-reliance in advanced defence technologies and long-range precision strike capabilities.
The LRLACM has been developed entirely within the country, with its various subsystems designed by DRDO laboratories and manufactured with the support of Indian industry partners. The Aeronautical Development Establishment (ADE), Bengaluru, served as the nodal laboratory for the project.
Senior DRDO officials and representatives of the Indian Navy and Indian Air Force witnessed the launch.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the DRDO scientists and industry partners for the successful flight-test, describing it as a major achievement for India’s indigenous defence programme.
Defence Secretary and Secretary, Department of Defence Research and Development, Rajesh Kumar Singh, who also serves as DRDO Chairman, monitored the launch activities and praised the teams involved in the mission.
Officials said the successful test validates critical technologies associated with long-range cruise missile systems and further enhances India’s indigenous missile development capabilities.
The Long Range Land Attack Cruise Missile is expected to strengthen the country’s strategic deterrence and provide the armed forces with a highly accurate long-range strike platform capable of engaging land-based targets at extended distances.
The latest achievement comes as India continues to accelerate defence modernisation under the Atmanirbhar Bharat initiative, with a strong focus on indigenous research, development and production of advanced military systems.
