New Delhi, 6th May: The Election Commission of India said its digital platform ECINET played a crucial role in managing the 2026 General Elections and bye-elections by enabling real-time monitoring, faster reporting and enhanced transparency.

Launched officially in January 2026, ECINET has seen rapid adoption, crossing 10 crore downloads. The platform was earlier tested during the Bihar elections in November 2025.

On polling days — April 9, 23 and 29 — the system recorded over 98.3 crore hits, while on counting day, May 4, it handled an average of 3 crore hits per minute, reflecting its large-scale usage.

The Commission highlighted that ECINET’s cybersecurity framework successfully countered over 68 lakh malicious attempts, including attacks originating from both domestic and international sources targeting election-related platforms.

In a major security upgrade, a QR code-based Photo Identity Card system was introduced for the first time at counting centres. Over 3.2 lakh QR codes were generated to regulate access and ensure only authorised personnel could enter counting venues.

Officials said the platform has strengthened election management by integrating digital tools for monitoring, security and data flow, marking a step forward in modernising India’s electoral process.
