Blaze at Pachpadra complex brought under control; no casualties reported

Jaipur, 20th April: A massive fire broke out at the Pachpadra refinery complex in Rajasthan just hours before Prime Minister Narendra Modi was scheduled to inaugurate the facility, prompting the government to postpone the event.

The blaze sent thick black smoke billowing into the sky, triggering emergency response measures at the site.

The Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas confirmed that the planned dedication of the refinery has been deferred following the incident.

Officials said the fire has been brought under control and no casualties have been reported.

Authorities have launched an investigation to ascertain the cause of the fire and implement corrective measures to prevent future incidents.

The refinery, developed as a joint venture between Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Limited (HPCL) and the Rajasthan government, is India’s first greenfield integrated refinery-cum-petrochemical complex.

It is expected to play a key role in strengthening India’s energy security by reducing import dependence and boosting domestic production.

Beyond fuel production, the complex is designed to generate petrochemical products such as polypropylene, polyethylene, benzene and butadiene, which will support a wide range of industries.

These include manufacturing of plastics, automobile components, packaging materials, synthetic fibres and chemicals.

Officials said the project is expected to transform Rajasthan into a major hub for value-added manufacturing and industrial growth at both national and global levels.
