Mumbai, 16th July: Former Managing Director of MAHAPREIT and retired IAS officer Shri Bipin Shrimali has been conferred the United Gate Emerging India Conclave – Asia Leadership Award by Nikola Tesla Smart Cities (NT Smart Cities) for his contributions to renewable energy, sustainable infrastructure and strengthening Indo–Malaysian cooperation.

The award was presented by Nanda Bhagi Sandilya, Founder and President of Nikola Tesla Smart Cities, during a recognition ceremony in Mumbai.

According to the organisation, the honour recognises Shri Shrimali’s leadership in facilitating one of the earliest government-level evaluations of the Nikola Tesla Smart Cities concept during his tenure as Managing Director of the Maharashtra State Power Generation Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (MAHAPREIT). The evaluation led to the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to explore collaboration on smart and sustainable infrastructure projects in Maharashtra.

The proposed initiative envisions the development of integrated smart city ecosystems featuring renewable energy, digital infrastructure, artificial intelligence, intelligent mobility, healthcare, education, water management and sustainable urban planning.

NT Smart Cities said the proposed investment potential for the project could range between US$3 billion and US$33 billion, depending on regulatory approvals, commercial agreements, financial closure, technical feasibility and the scope of implementation.

The organisation stated that the initiative is proposed to be developed in collaboration with Tesla Energy Global Holdings Group and other strategic partners through joint ventures, public-private partnerships and other applicable investment frameworks.

Speaking on the occasion, Nanda Bhagi Sandilya said Shri Shrimali’s leadership demonstrated how government institutions can evaluate innovative infrastructure concepts through transparent and structured processes. He added that the former bureaucrat’s commitment to renewable energy and sustainable development had created opportunities for future collaboration that could contribute to Maharashtra’s economic growth.

Nikola Tesla Smart Cities said its integrated development model focuses on technology-enabled urban ecosystems incorporating renewable energy, battery energy storage systems, artificial intelligence, data centres, digital governance, mobility, affordable housing, commercial infrastructure and environmental sustainability. The organisation added that each project would proceed only after detailed feasibility studies, statutory approvals, environmental clearances and execution of definitive agreements with all stakeholders.
