Gandhinagar, 18th Sept: GIFT City has climbed nine places to rank 37th globally in the 40th edition of the Global Financial Centres Index (GFCI 40), rising from 46th in the previous edition.

The Gandhinagar-based financial hub has also entered the top 15 financial centres in the Asia-Pacific region, emerging as the only Indian financial centre in that group, according to the latest GFCI assessment.

GIFT City also improved its position in the GFCI’s FinTech rankings, moving up three places to 26th globally, compared with 29th in the previous edition. The FinTech assessment considers factors including the regulatory environment, skilled talent, access to finance, ICT infrastructure and support for innovation.

The latest index has also included GIFT City among the 15 financial centres expected by survey respondents to become more significant over the next two to three years.

The upward movement comes amid the continued expansion of GIFT City’s financial services ecosystem and the growing integration of finance, technology and innovation. The centre’s stated priorities include increasing market participation, strengthening international connectivity and developing capabilities for increasingly complex cross-border financial activities.

The GFCI report has identified several areas as priorities for financial centres over the next five years, including digital infrastructure such as cloud services and data connectivity, cybersecurity resilience, attracting FinTech and digital-asset businesses, strengthening anti-money laundering and financial-crime frameworks, and deepening capital markets.

The GFCI 40 assessment covers 115 financial centres and draws on 144 instrumental factors, along with 39,531 assessments from 6,147 respondents to the GFCI online questionnaire.

GIFT City is India’s International Financial Services Centre and has been developing as a hub for banking, capital markets, funds, insurance, FinTech and other international financial services.
