New Delhi, 10th June: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on Tuesday launched the Land Port Management System (LPMS) ‘VINIMAY’ in New Delhi, describing it as a major step towards creating a secure, modern and technology-driven border management framework.
Addressing the event, Shah said the LPMS, together with the government’s Smart Borders initiative, would strengthen border security, improve trade facilitation and enhance coordination among multiple agencies operating at India’s land borders. He said the system has been designed to meet the requirements of all stakeholders while placing special emphasis on national security.
The Home Minister said LPMS would provide an integrated digital platform for managing cargo, passengers and vehicles, while enabling seamless information exchange among agencies. Through the platform, real-time data sharing will take place among ICEGATE, CBIC, BSF, DGFT, UIDAI, Motor Vehicle Systems and ULIP, enhancing efficiency and coordination.
Shah noted that nearly 90 per cent of paperwork would be eliminated through the new system. The introduction of a Single Electronic Window and Automatic Number Plate Recognition-based gate operations is expected to reduce truck waiting time by 40 to 60 per cent and significantly cut processing time at land ports.
Highlighting the growth of border infrastructure under the Modi government, Shah said trade through land ports has increased from ₹5,000 crore in 2014 to ₹83,000 crore today, registering a sixteen-fold rise. He added that 15 land ports are currently operational across the country and 11 more are expected to become functional within the next two to three years.
Shah also said June 10, 2026, would be a historic day as Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to become the longest-serving continuously elected Prime Minister of India, surpassing the record of former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru. He described the achievement as a matter of pride for the nation.
The Home Minister credited Modi’s leadership for transforming governance through a focus on public welfare, infrastructure development, digital empowerment and inclusive growth. He said the government’s initiatives have helped millions gain access to housing, healthcare, banking services, sanitation and social security benefits.
Shah expressed confidence that the integration of LPMS with the Smart Border framework would further strengthen India’s economic and national security while supporting the country’s long-term development goals.
