New Delhi, 10th Jun: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leaders on Wednesday congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi after he became India’s longest-serving elected Prime Minister, completing 4,399 consecutive days in office and surpassing the record held by India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru.

Modi, who first assumed office on May 26, 2014, achieved the milestone after serving continuously for 4,399 days. Nehru, who became Prime Minister following India’s first general election in 1952, had served 4,398 consecutive days in office until his death on May 27, 1964.

Defence Minister Rajnath Singh described the achievement as a testament to the enduring trust placed in Modi’s leadership by the people of India.

“Congratulations to Shri Narendra Modi Ji on becoming the longest-serving elected Prime Minister in India’s history, completing 4,399 days in office. A tireless Karmayogi guided by the principle of Nation First, his tenure reflects unwavering dedication to India, steadfast commitment to the welfare of its people, and transformative leadership in service of the nation,” Singh posted on X.

He said the past 12 years had witnessed remarkable progress in development, governance and India’s global standing, while also fostering what he called a civilisational resurgence that has strengthened national confidence and cultural identity.

Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal termed the occasion a historic day and credited Modi’s leadership for ushering in transformative reforms across sectors.

“4,399 days and counting… A historic day as PM Narendra Modi ji becomes the longest-serving elected Prime Minister of India today,” Goyal wrote on X.

He said government initiatives over the last 12 years had benefited farmers, entrepreneurs, women, MSMEs, youth and the middle class, while helping drive inclusive growth across the country.

Goyal also highlighted India’s rising global stature under Modi’s leadership and said the Prime Minister’s vision continues to guide the country’s journey towards becoming a developed nation by 2047.

Union Law Minister Arjun Ram Meghwal described the achievement as a landmark moment in India’s political and developmental history.

“Today is a very special day. Prime Minister Narendra Modi has completed 12 years as Prime Minister. In these 12 years, the country has progressed in every field. The scale of schemes has expanded, and the nation’s prestige and honour have risen,” Meghwal said.

He credited the Prime Minister with strengthening the economy, controlling inflation, expanding employment opportunities and enhancing India’s strategic and military standing through measures such as surgical strikes, air strikes and Operation Sindoor.

BJP leaders across the country marked the occasion by highlighting key achievements of the Modi government in infrastructure, welfare delivery, digital transformation, economic reforms and India’s growing international influence.

The milestone comes as the Modi government completes 12 years in office, with the BJP projecting it as a period of transformative governance, inclusive development and enhanced global recognition for India.
