Iran Mocks Trump’s Hormuz Blockade, Warns Gulf Ports ‘Won’t Be Safe’

WASHINGTON – Iran Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf on Monday warned that Americans will soon get “nostalgic” for the current gas prices.

US President Donald Trump announced a blockade of the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran strongly criticized the US plans, warned that no port in the Persian Gulf will be safe if its own maritime security is threatened.

Iran’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters in a statement shared by state media, said that the armed forces of the Islamic Republic will safeguard the country’s rights and sovereignty in its territorial waters, calling it a “natural and legal duty”.

The Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran consider defending the legal rights of our country a natural and legal duty, and accordingly, exercising the sovereignty of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the territorial waters of our country is the natural right of the Iranian nation,” the statement read.

It added, “The Armed Forces of the Islamic Republic of Iran clearly and firmly declare that the security of ports in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman is either for everyone or for no one. If the security of the ports of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the waters of the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman is threatened, no port in the Persian Gulf and the Sea of Oman will be safe.”

The Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters statement also stressed that Tehran will continue to “ensure security in its territorial waters”, added that no enemy vessels will be allowed to pass through the Strait of Hormuz.

“Ensuring security in the territorial waters of the Islamic Republic of Iran by the armed forces will continue with determination, and as has been repeatedly announced, enemy-affiliated vessels do not and will not have the right to pass through the Strait of Hormuz, and other vessels will continue to be allowed to pass through the Strait, subject to the regulations of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s armed forces,” the statement added.

Iranian Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf led the country’s delegation to negotiate with the US in Islamabad last week has mocked the US President’s plan, spinning a “mathematical” formula to portray how the “so-called” blockade would trigger a massive spike in oil and gas prices.

Ghalibaf in a social media post on X, warned that people will soon get “nostalgic” for the current gas prices.

“Enjoy the current pump figures. With the so-called ‘blockade’, soon you’ll be nostalgic for $4-$5 gas,” he wrote.

BSOH means Blockade of the Strait of Hormuz, in his ‘formula’, it appears to show the ripple effect would mean an increase in gas prices as the blockade continues.

US military has said it will begin a blockade of all Iranian ports from Monday onwards after Trump announced that the Strait of Hormuz, through which a fifth of global crude supply normally passes, will be blocked by the American Navy.

US has declared to choke Iran’s maritime lifelines, with the US Central Command announcing a sweeping naval blockade that halts all shipping traffic to and from Iranian ports from Monday morning.

The move ordered under US President Donald Trump, threatens to rip millions of barrels of oil out of global supply chains and push an already fragile energy market toward crisis.

The blockade applies to vessels of all nations entering or exiting Iranian territory, tightening pressure on Tehran while allowing passage only to ships bound for non-Iranian ports.
