Commission issues notices to Palwal officials over reported death of four-year-old girl after falling into uncovered manhole

Palwal, 18th Sept: The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has taken suo motu cognizance of the reported death of a four-year-old girl who allegedly fell into an uncovered manhole while playing near her house in Palwal on September 14.
The Commission has issued notices to the Deputy Commissioner and Superintendent of Police, Palwal, seeking a detailed report on the incident within two weeks.
The NHRC said that if the contents of the media report are found to be true, the incident raises serious issues concerning violation of human rights.
The report sought by the Commission is expected to include details of the investigation into the incident and information on whether any compensation has been paid to the family of the deceased girl.
According to the media report cited by the NHRC, the girl was found inside the uncovered manhole by her family members and local residents after she went missing while playing near her home. She was reportedly taken in critical condition to the District Civil Hospital, where doctors declared her dead.
The report also stated that local residents had allegedly made several complaints to the concerned authorities regarding the uncovered manhole, but it remained open.
The NHRC’s intervention follows the media report published on September 16 and seeks accountability and further details from the district authorities regarding the circumstances surrounding the child’s death.
