Eight devotees killed after car is swept away by rain-swollen stream in Madhya Pradesh

New Delhi/ Agar Malwa, 19th Sept: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday expressed condolences over the deaths in a road mishap in Madhya Pradesh’s Agar Malwa district and announced financial assistance from the Prime Minister’s National Relief Fund (PMNRF).
According to reports, a car carrying devotees was swept away by a rain-swollen stream near the Maa Baglamukhi Temple in the Nalkheda area of Agar Malwa. Eight people, including three children, two women and three men, died in the incident.
The accident occurred when the vehicle attempted to cross the swollen waterway amid strong currents. Rescue teams and local authorities reached the site and recovered the vehicle and the victims.
Reports said seven of those killed were residents of Bhubaneswar, Odisha, while the driver was from Agar Malwa. The group had reportedly travelled to Madhya Pradesh for a family ceremony and visited the temple.
Reacting to the tragedy, Prime Minister Modi said the incident was “extremely painful” and offered condolences to the families who lost their loved ones.
Under the PMNRF, ₹2 lakh will be provided to the next of kin of each deceased, while ₹50,000 will be given to those injured in the mishap.
Police and administrative authorities are investigating the circumstances surrounding the accident.
