New Delhi, 18th Aug: Prime Minister Narendra Modi will inaugurate SEMICON India 2026, the country’s biggest semiconductor conference and exhibition, on September 17 at Yashobhoomi (India International Convention and Expo Centre) in New Delhi, marking another major milestone in India’s semiconductor ambitions.
The three-day event, scheduled from September 17 to 19, is themed “Silicon to Systems: Building the Ecosystem” and will bring together global semiconductor companies, policymakers, industry leaders, academia, startups and students to strengthen collaboration across the semiconductor value chain.
Organised jointly by the India Semiconductor Mission (ISM), the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology (MeitY) and global industry association SEMI, the conference aims to showcase India’s progress in building a resilient semiconductor ecosystem under the Semicon India Programme.
The government said India’s semiconductor ecosystem has gained significant momentum, with 12 projects approved under Semicon 1.0, of which three have already commenced commercial production. The recently approved Semicon 2.0 programme is expected to further accelerate semiconductor manufacturing, research, design and innovation in the country.
To strengthen the design ecosystem, the government has provided advanced semiconductor design tools to more than 332 academic institutions and 105 startups, while 24 startups have been approved under the Design Linked Incentive (DLI) scheme to develop critical semiconductor applications.
The conference will feature keynote addresses, panel discussions, fireside chats, international country roundtables and sessions on manufacturing, artificial intelligence, digital transformation, supply chains, sustainability, policy, startups, talent development and workforce skilling. A dedicated session on women’s leadership and a special discussion on industry collaboration for India’s electronics manufacturing growth will also be held.
The accompanying exhibition is expected to attract over 500 exhibitors, including 240 international companies, 150-plus global speakers, delegations from more than 40 countries, six country pavilions, ten state government pavilions, a startup showcase, innovation competitions and student hackathons across 15,000 square metres of exhibition space.
Speaking at the launch of the event, MeitY Secretary S. Krishnan said the growing scale of participation reflects global confidence in India’s semiconductor sector and highlighted the successful implementation of the Semicon India Programme alongside the launch of Semicon 2.0.
SEMI President and CEO Ajit Manocha said India has the talent, ambition and long-term vision to become an integral part of the global semiconductor supply chain, while India Semiconductor Mission CEO Amitesh Kumar Sinha said the country’s semiconductor demand is projected to double from around $100 billion to $200 billion, creating significant opportunities for manufacturing and innovation.
Industry leaders from leading global companies, including ASML, Applied Materials, IBM Research, NXP, Tata Electronics, Micron, Tokyo Electron, Infineon, Lam Research, Merck KGaA and several others, are expected to participate in the event, making SEMICON India 2026 one of the largest semiconductor gatherings in the country.
