New Delhi, 3rd Aug: President Droupadi Murmu on Monday met Uzbekistan Foreign Minister Saidov Bakhtiyor Odilovich at Rashtrapati Bhavan, reaffirming India’s commitment to deepening bilateral cooperation across trade, education, technology and strategic sectors.
Welcoming the visiting delegation, President Murmu said India and Uzbekistan share centuries-old historical, cultural and civilisational ties rooted in ancient trade routes. She noted that shared traditions in architecture, language, cuisine, music and religion continue to strengthen the partnership between the two countries.
The President said the presence of senior leaders in the Uzbek delegation and the India-Uzbekistan Business Forum held alongside the visit reflected growing business confidence in both countries.
She highlighted significant opportunities for expanding cooperation in rare earth minerals, mining, agriculture, pharmaceuticals and information technology, describing them as key areas for future collaboration.
President Murmu also underlined the strong educational links between the two nations, noting that more than 3,000 Uzbek officials, professionals and students have benefited from India’s ITEC training programmes and scholarship initiatives.
She further said that over 16,000 Indian students are currently pursuing higher education in Uzbekistan, describing them as an important bridge in strengthening people-to-people ties and mutual understanding.
Both leaders expressed confidence that the discussions held during the visit would further reinforce friendship, trust and cooperation between India and Uzbekistan.
