New Delhi, 11th July: A bomb threat targeting Delhi’s historic Red Fort triggered a major security response on Friday after an anonymous caller warned of an explosion, prompting authorities to sanitise the entire premises before declaring the threat a hoax.
According to officials, the threat call was received at the Mumbai Police Control Room, where the caller claimed that the Red Fort would be blown up. Mumbai Police immediately alerted the Delhi Police Control Room, which in turn informed the North District Police.
Security personnel rushed to the monument and carried out extensive searches and sanitisation of the premises. After completing the inspection, police found no suspicious object or explosive material and declared the threat to be a hoax.
The incident comes amid heightened security concerns surrounding the national capital. Authorities have not disclosed the identity of the caller and are investigating the source of the threat.
The Red Fort has remained under enhanced security following a series of terror-related incidents and threats in recent years. Last year, a high-intensity vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (IED) blast near the Red Fort Metro Station killed 15 people and injured several others. Investigators had linked the attack to a terror module associated with Ansar Ghazwat-ul-Hind, an al-Qaeda-affiliated outfit.
Earlier this year, Delhi Police also arrested nine individuals allegedly linked to Pakistan’s Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI) and fugitive gangster Dawood Ibrahim for allegedly plotting attacks on critical installations, including airports, railway stations and other strategic locations across the country.
Police said investigations into Friday’s bomb threat are underway to identify and trace the caller.
