Chennai, 21st April: Actor-turned-politician Vijay made a strong and emotional final appeal to voters on the last day of campaigning, positioning the election as a decisive fight against established political forces.
In an open letter to the people of Tamil Nadu, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief said he entered politics to repay the love and support of the people, describing it as a “debt of gratitude.”
Vijay launched a direct attack on both the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and the Bharatiya Janata Party, alleging that the two parties had caused him “indescribable pain.”
He asserted that he would neither bow to pressure nor be influenced by power or inducements.
Urging voters to support his party’s whistle symbol, Vijay warned against “political gamblers” attempting to influence the electorate through money and vested interests.
He said voting for any other symbol would indirectly support divisive forces, and called for a “whistle revolution” to bring change.
Highlighting his bond with supporters, Vijay said their love gives him the strength to face challenges and pressure. He described his party as a movement driven by integrity and social justice.
Despite campaigning in only a limited number of districts, Vijay has relied on strong messaging and appeal among youth and first-time voters.
He is contesting from two constituencies—Perambur in Chennai and Trichy East—in what is being seen as a high-stakes political debut.
The election has seen intense competition over welfare promises:
- DMK has promised increased financial assistance for women
- AIADMK has announced cash benefits and household support
- TVK has proposed ₹2,500 monthly aid for women, LPG cylinders and health insurance
Tamil Nadu is witnessing a tightly contested multi-cornered battle, with the ruling DMK seeking re-election, AIADMK aiming for a comeback, and Vijay attempting a breakthrough entry.
