Chennai, 4th May: Tamil Nadu appears headed towards a hung Assembly as actor-turned-politician Vijay made a powerful electoral debut, disrupting the decades-old dominance of the DMK-AIADMK political axis.

Early counting trends indicate that Vijay’s Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has surged ahead in multiple constituencies, creating a triangular contest and pushing the state towards a potential coalition scenario.

With the majority mark set at 118 in the 234-member Assembly, no party is currently in a position to secure a clear mandate, raising the likelihood of a kingmaker role for the emerging political force.

The AIADMK has, however, ruled out any post-poll alliance with TVK. Senior leader C. Ponnaiyan asserted that the party would not join hands with Vijay’s outfit, even if approached.

He expressed confidence that the AIADMK-led alliance would eventually gain ground, particularly in rural constituencies, and still emerge with a majority.

Meanwhile, TVK leaders have projected confidence in forming the government independently, claiming that public sentiment strongly favors political change in the state.

The DMK, which has been in power since 2021, is trailing in early trends, indicating a shift in voter dynamics.

Political observers note that the rise of TVK could mark a turning point in Tamil Nadu’s electoral landscape, potentially ending decades of two-party dominance.

As counting progresses, the final outcome is expected to determine whether the state witnesses a fractured mandate or a historic political realignment.
