Addressing the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of University B.D.T. College of Engineering in Karnataka, the Vice President said engineering institutions have a critical responsibility in nurturing problem-solvers, innovators, ethical leaders and nation-builders.
He observed that India is undergoing a transformative phase driven by technology, innovation and the strength of its youth. Referring to initiatives led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, he said programmes such as Digital India, Make in India, Startup India, Skill India, semiconductor manufacturing and Atmanirbhar Bharat have created unprecedented opportunities for young engineers and entrepreneurs.
Radhakrishnan noted that India’s aspiration to become a developed nation by 2047 would be shaped by the contributions of engineers, scientists, researchers and innovators.
He praised the institution for strengthening research and innovation through initiatives such as the AICTE IDEA Lab, Drone Technology Laboratory and advanced research facilities.
Describing the platinum jubilee as a celebration of both legacy and future aspirations, the Vice President said the institution’s 75-year journey reflects academic excellence, perseverance and service to society.
Paying tribute to philanthropist Brahmappa Devendrappa Tavanappanavar and Jayachamarajendra Wadiyar for their role in establishing the institution, he said their vision continues to inspire generations.
Addressing students directly, the Vice President stressed the importance of combining knowledge with humility, integrity and compassion.
“Technology must serve humanity,” he said, adding that scientific advancement should always be guided by public welfare and human values.
He also delivered a strong message against substance abuse, urging students and society to say “No to Drugs” and remain in control of their lives and decisions.
Expressing confidence in the institution’s future, Radhakrishnan said the college would continue to emerge as a centre of excellence and contribute significantly to India’s innovation ecosystem and national development.
