New Delhi, 8th April: The Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has approved the Jaipur Metro Phase-2 project, a major urban transport initiative aimed at transforming mobility in the city.

The project involves the development of a 41-km North–South corridor from Prahladpura to Todi Mod, with 36 stations, at an estimated cost of ₹13,037.66 crore. It will be executed by the Rajasthan Metro Rail Corporation Limited, a joint venture between the Centre and the Rajasthan government.

The corridor will connect key areas such as Sitapura Industrial Area, VKIA, Jaipur Airport, Tonk Road, SMS Hospital, Ambabari and Vidhyadhar Nagar, significantly enhancing urban connectivity. Underground stations are planned near the airport, while integration with the existing Phase-1 corridor will ensure seamless travel across the network.

Currently, Jaipur Metro’s Phase-1 corridor, spanning 11.64 km, serves around 60,000 daily passengers. With Phase-2, ridership is expected to rise sharply, boosting public transport usage and reducing reliance on private vehicles.

The project has cleared multiple appraisal stages, including inter-ministerial consultations and Public Investment Board evaluation, with an Economic Internal Rate of Return above the required threshold, indicating strong viability.

Funding will be supported through a mix of central and state equity, subordinate debt and multilateral financing, in line with the Metro Rail Policy, 2017.

Aligned with Rajasthan’s Transit-Oriented Development policy and national urban mobility goals, the project is expected to ease traffic congestion, lower emissions and improve overall transport efficiency in Jaipur.
