Mehsana, 11th April: In a move that has sparked widespread discussion in the Mehsana Municipal Corporation elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party has fielded a long-time party worker, Ramesh Bhil, who served as a peon at the district party office for nearly three decades.
Bhil, 50, filed his nomination on Saturday as the BJP candidate from Ward Number 13, marking a remarkable transition from a back-end organisational role to active electoral politics.
Having worked at the BJP’s Mehsana district office for 28 years, Bhil was responsible for managing day-to-day office tasks, including assisting party leaders and workers. His candidature is being seen as a symbolic move by the party to emphasise its focus on grassroots workers.
“I have served the party with dedication for 28 years. Now I will serve the people of my ward with the same sincerity,” Bhil said after filing his nomination papers.
Party insiders noted that his long-standing loyalty and deep connection with the cadre played a key role in his selection, projecting him as a candidate rooted in ground realities.
The decision has drawn attention among local residents, many of whom view Bhil as a relatable figure who understands everyday challenges faced by common citizens.
As the municipal contest intensifies, Bhil’s candidacy has added a unique dimension to the political narrative, reinforcing the BJP’s messaging around rewarding commitment and elevating grassroots workers to leadership roles.
