Gangtok, 28th April: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday participated in the grand closing ceremony of Sikkim’s 50th Year of Statehood celebrations in Gangtok, unveiling and inaugurating over 30 major development projects worth thousands of crores.

Addressing a massive gathering at Paljor Stadium, Modi described Sikkim as a model of serenity, enterprise and sustainable progress, praising its unmatched cleanliness, ecological consciousness and organic farming success.

The Prime Minister said Sikkim’s roads, environment and public discipline make it a true national example of environmental stewardship, calling its people “nature’s protectors and brand ambassadors.”

Highlighting infrastructure development, Modi said the Centre is placing maximum emphasis on road, rail and tourism connectivity in Sikkim, including strategic projects like the Bagdogra-Gangtok Expressway and Sevok-Rangpo rail line.

He also emphasized tourism, eco-wellness, adventure sports and homestay development as key economic growth engines for the Himalayan state.

In healthcare, Modi underscored expanded Ayushman Bharat benefits, Jan Aushadhi affordability and new hospital infrastructure, including Sowa Rigpa facilities.

Calling Sikkim’s fully organic agricultural model a national inspiration, the Prime Minister said its approach aligns directly with India’s future vision of sustainable development and Viksit Bharat.

He further praised Sikkim’s youth sporting potential, women-led self-help ecosystems and environmental initiatives as critical contributors to India’s broader development agenda.
