Jabalpur, 3rd May: The death toll in the tragic Bargi Dam cruise boat capsizing in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur district has risen to 11 after rescue teams recovered the bodies of two children during ongoing search operations on Saturday.
The cruise vessel had capsized earlier this week in the reservoir, triggering a major disaster response involving SDRF, NDRF, Army personnel and local volunteers.
Officials confirmed that search efforts are continuing for any remaining missing persons.
Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav visited the accident site and reiterated that those responsible for negligence or safety failures would face strict action.
He praised the swift response of rescue personnel and local citizens, whose efforts helped save numerous lives.
The Chief Minister also announced financial recognition for rescue workers and assured that civilians who assisted in emergency efforts would be formally honoured.
A high-level investigation committee has been constituted to examine the circumstances surrounding the tragedy, including operational safety lapses and accountability.
The incident has intensified concerns over tourism safety standards, vessel regulation and disaster preparedness in public recreational zones.
Authorities are expected to submit findings that could shape future boating safety reforms in the state.
