Kolkata, 4th May: West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday accused the Bharatiya Janata Party of executing a “planned” strategy as early counting trends showed the BJP taking a commanding lead in the Assembly elections.
In her first public reaction during counting, Banerjee alleged irregularities in the counting process and urged Trinamool Congress workers and counting agents not to leave their designated centres.
She claimed that the BJP was projecting early leads strategically, while results from several constituencies where the Trinamool was ahead were not being fully reflected.
Banerjee also raised concerns over the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, alleging that the removal of a large number of voters had impacted the election outcome.
She further alleged disruptions in counting rounds and irregularities involving electronic voting machines at certain locations.
Despite trailing in early trends, Banerjee expressed confidence in a turnaround, urging party workers to remain patient and vigilant.
The Trinamool chief called on her cadre to stay united and continue monitoring the counting process closely.
With the BJP leading in a substantial number of seats in the 294-member Assembly, the results could mark a major political shift in West Bengal.
The counting process remains underway, with multiple rounds yet to be completed across constituencies.
