Bhuj, 29th May: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Friday inaugurated the G-7 and G-13 Border Out Posts (BOPs) of the Border Security Force in Gujarat’s Bhuj and unveiled a new border management vision centred on a “Quadrangular Security Grid” and comprehensive “Territorial Security.”

Interacting with BSF personnel deployed along the India-Pakistan border, Shah paid tribute to the force’s sacrifices and described it as the nation’s “First Line of Defence.” He noted that BSF personnel operate in some of the country’s most challenging terrains and weather conditions, ranging from minus 45 degrees to plus 45 degrees Celsius.

The Home Minister said over 2,000 BSF personnel have laid down their lives in service to the nation during the force’s six-decade journey, safeguarding borders stretching from Kashmir to the Sundarbans, Rajasthan’s deserts and the northeastern states.

Highlighting ongoing infrastructure upgrades, Shah said the Modi government is creating a “leak-proof security grid” through modern fencing, watchtowers, roads, drinking water facilities, medical infrastructure and technology-driven surveillance systems. He added that technological fencing is being deployed in areas where conventional fencing is not feasible.

Shah said the Sir Creek and Harami Nala regions, once considered vulnerable from a security perspective, have witnessed substantial improvements and are expected to become permanently secured within the next two years.

Announcing a shift in India’s border management strategy, the Home Minister said the concept of border security would evolve into a broader model of “territorial security”. Under the proposed quadrangular security framework, the public, civil administration, local police, armed forces and BSF personnel will work together to strengthen national security.

He said the Smart Border Security Project is being implemented with investments worth thousands of crores of rupees and will integrate drones, radars, advanced surveillance systems and modern infrastructure to create an impenetrable security network along India’s borders.

Shah also referred to border fencing efforts in West Bengal, stating that after the BJP formed the government in the state, land required for fencing was handed over to the BSF within a week, ending a prolonged deadlock. He expressed confidence that the completion of fencing and deployment of technological solutions in riverine and forested stretches would significantly curb infiltration.

The Home Minister further noted that a public outreach centre established in Gujarat to showcase the role and sacrifices of BSF personnel has attracted more than 2.5 lakh visitors in the past month. According to him, many visitors, particularly mothers, expressed pride in the prospect of their children joining the force in the future.

Gujarat Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Intelligence Bureau and the BSF were present during the event.
