New Delhi, 15th June: India and France have adopted the ambitious India-France Innovation Roadmap 2030, charting a comprehensive framework to deepen bilateral cooperation in artificial intelligence (AI), innovation, research, startups, education and emerging technologies.
The roadmap builds on the decision taken by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and French President Emmanuel Macron on February 17, 2026, to elevate bilateral ties to a Special Global Strategic Partnership and jointly launch the India-France Year of Innovation 2026.
According to the roadmap, both countries view innovation as a critical driver of economic resilience, sustainable development, strategic autonomy and technological sovereignty. The initiative aligns India’s vision of Viksit Bharat 2047 with France’s France 2030 strategy.
A major component of the roadmap is the establishment of a partnership for Trusted AI, under which India and France will collaborate on the development of safe, secure and trustworthy artificial intelligence systems. The two countries will also work together on AI governance, child safety online, privacy-preserving technologies and responsible data-sharing frameworks.
In a significant boost to educational and people-to-people ties, France reaffirmed its goal of welcoming 30,000 Indian students by 2030. Both countries also agreed to work towards expanding the Mutual Recognition of Qualifications framework to facilitate academic mobility, dual-degree programmes and joint research initiatives.
The roadmap emphasizes stronger collaboration between governments, industries, startups, universities and research institutions to promote innovation-led growth and build trusted supply chains in strategic sectors.
India and France highlighted the importance of the Indo-French Centre for the Promotion of Advanced Research (CEFIPRA) and the newly launched India-France Innovation Network (IFIN) as key platforms for advancing scientific cooperation and technology development.
Among the major announcements is the establishment of a Franco-Indian Campus for Aeronautics Training and Careers in Kanpur, aimed at strengthening skills and training in the aviation sector.
The two countries also proposed the India-France InnoXchange Bridge, a dedicated startup and innovation corridor that will connect innovators, research laboratories, investors and technology ecosystems across both nations.
Space cooperation received renewed attention, with India and France committing to expand collaboration in Earth observation, human space exploration and private space ecosystems. The two countries are scheduled to host major international space events in Bengaluru and Paris in September 2026.
In the health sector, both sides agreed to advance consent-based and secure data-sharing models to support research, healthcare innovation and AI-driven public services.
The roadmap is expected to serve as a guiding framework for bilateral innovation cooperation through 2030 and further strengthen India-France ties in critical and emerging technologies.
