BRICS Ministers to Meet in Visakhapatnam

India to host Youth and Sports Ministers from 11 BRICS nations under its BRICS Chairship 2026

Visakhapatnam, 21st Aug: India will host the BRICS Youth Ministers’ Meeting and the BRICS Sports Ministers’ Meeting in Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, on August 22 and 23, bringing together ministers and heads of delegation from all 11 BRICS member nations to strengthen cooperation in youth affairs and sports.

The meetings, being held under India’s BRICS Chairship 2026, will be chaired by Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, while Minister of State for Youth Affairs and Sports Smt. Raksha Khadse will also participate in the proceedings. India’s chairship this year is guided by the theme “Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation and Sustainability.”

The BRICS Youth Ministers’ Meeting on August 22 will deliberate on strengthening cooperation in youth development, with discussions covering education, skill development, entrepreneurship, well-being and sustainable development. Ministers will also review recommendations emerging from the BRICS Youth Council Meeting and the BRICS Youth Summit and identify future areas of collaboration.

The meeting is expected to conclude with the adoption of the BRICS Youth Ministerial Joint Declaration and the BRICS Youth Cooperation Framework, aimed at enhancing long-term cooperation among BRICS nations.

The BRICS Sports Ministers’ Meeting on August 23 will focus on expanding collaboration in sports through discussions on sports technology, sports manufacturing, traditional and indigenous sports, and other priority areas identified during India’s BRICS Chairship. The meeting is expected to culminate with the adoption of the BRICS Sports Joint Declaration.

Representatives from Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Indonesia, Iran, Russia, Saudi Arabia, South Africa and the United Arab Emirates will present country statements during the ministerial sessions.

Besides the formal meetings, the programme will feature the BRICS Friendship Cycling Event, bilateral meetings and cultural engagements aimed at strengthening people-to-people ties among member countries.

Senior officials from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, including Youth Affairs Secretary Sunil Paliwal and Sports Secretary Hari Ranjan Rao, will also participate in the engagements.

The two ministerial meetings are expected to reinforce institutional cooperation among BRICS nations, facilitate the exchange of best practices and advance shared priorities in youth empowerment and sports development under India’s BRICS Chairship 2026.
