New Delhi, 6th July: Union Chemicals and Fertilizers Minister J. P. Nadda on Sunday said the Centre has ensured uninterrupted fertilizer supplies despite disruptions in West Asia, with 15 vessels carrying fertilizers and raw materials safely crossing the Strait of Hormuz and heading to India.
Nadda said the government, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, acted proactively to protect farmers from global supply disruptions by securing imports from multiple countries and maintaining close coordination through 28 Indian missions abroad.
The minister said eight vessels carrying 3.32 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) of urea, four carrying 2.57 LMT of DAP and three carrying 1.11 LMT of sulphur are on their way to India, with five more shipments expected shortly.
He added that the restoration of 100% natural gas supply to fertilizer plants has enabled all urea units to operate at full capacity, resulting in record domestic production. During April-June 2026, India produced 71.55 LMT of urea against the target of 67.86 LMT, while DAP production also exceeded targets.
Nadda said the Centre has secured 197.56 LMT of fertilizer stocks, equivalent to more than half of the country’s annual requirement, ensuring adequate availability across states during the upcoming crop season.
He assured that fertilizers would continue to be supplied to states as per demand and said the government remains committed to protecting farmers from volatility in global markets.
