New Delhi, 8th July: Union Home Minister Amit Shah and Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu on Wednesday reviewed passenger facilities, security arrangements and immigration systems at major airports, directing authorities to improve passenger convenience while strengthening security.

At the high-level meeting, Shah directed the phased installation of the Automatic Tray Retrieval System (ATRS) at airports across the country to streamline security screening and reduce manual handling. He also called for standardised ATRS infrastructure at new airports.

The Home Minister instructed officials to prepare an integrated framework covering airport entry, check-in, security screening and immigration counters to ensure seamless passenger movement. He directed that development work at 62 airports, including 21 currently under construction, be completed within the next two years based on passenger traffic and prescribed security standards.

Shah also directed that Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) offices be established at the headquarters of all states by 2027 and asked officials to operationalise authorised immigration check posts at Agartala and Jewar airports at the earliest.

To promote the Fast Track Immigration–Trusted Travellers’ Programme (FTI-TTP), he suggested airlines encourage international passengers to register through WhatsApp messages at the time of ticket booking.

The Home Minister also called for third-party studies during peak travel seasons to identify and reduce passenger delays at major airports.
