BJP Set for Key Organisational Reshuffle
Focus shifts to Parliamentary Board and Central Election Committee after Nitin Nabin finalises core team

New Delhi, 19th Aug: With BJP president Nitin Nabin completing the formation of his core organisational team, attention has now shifted to the expected reconstitution of the party’s Parliamentary Board, the BJP’s highest decision-making body, along with the Central Election Committee (CEC), National Executive and National Council.
Under the BJP constitution, the Parliamentary Board plays a crucial role in recommending appointments for the offices of the Prime Minister and Chief Minister, approving alliances, framing policy decisions and initiating disciplinary action. All members of the Board also serve on the Central Election Committee, which finalises candidates for elections.
The Parliamentary Board is headed by the BJP president as its ex-officio chairman, while the party’s General Secretary (Organisation) serves as secretary. The current Board includes Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, Home Minister Amit Shah, Health Minister J.P. Nadda, B.S. Yediyurappa, Sarbananda Sonowal, K. Laxman, Iqbal Singh Lalpura, Sudha Yadav and Satyanarayan Jatiya, with B.L. Santhosh serving as secretary.
Party sources indicated that the new leadership is expected to maintain a balance of seniority, regional representation and social diversity while deciding the composition of the Board. The BJP constitution permits a maximum of 11 members, excluding the secretary, though the current body has 12 members.
The anticipated reshuffle has also revived discussions over whether a sitting Chief Minister should be included in the Parliamentary Board. While leaders such as Devendra Fadnavis, Yogi Adityanath and Himanta Biswa Sarma are seen as potential contenders, the issue has remained contentious because the Board itself is responsible for selecting Chief Ministers.
The future role of former BJP president J.P. Nadda on the Parliamentary Board is also under watch. His continuation could prompt questions over the position of another former party president, Nitin Gadkari, in the party’s top decision-making structure.
The BJP is also expected to reconstitute its Central Election Committee, which includes members of the Parliamentary Board along with other senior leaders. In addition, Nitin Nabin is likely to announce a new National Executive and National Council, completing the party’s organisational restructuring ahead of upcoming electoral challenges.
