Hyderabad, 21st Aug: Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy’s proposed visit to the United States has been cancelled after the Ministry of External Affairs denied the required political clearance, according to the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO).

The Chief Minister, who is currently leading the official TelanganaRising delegation in the United Kingdom, was scheduled to travel to Boston before returning to Hyderabad on August 30. However, the CMO said the Centre approved only the UK leg of the visit and declined permission for the US visit on political grounds.

According to the CMO, the state government had sought approval for both the UK and US visits in accordance with established policy and protocol. The decision denying permission for the US visit was reportedly communicated after the official delegation had already arrived in the UK.

Following the Centre’s decision, Revanth Reddy decided to cancel the US leg of the tour and will now return to Hyderabad on August 23 instead of travelling to Boston.

Despite the cancellation, the Chief Minister directed officials accompanying the delegation to continue with the US programme and complete the proposed Memoranda of Understanding (MoUs) and partnership agreements.

Expressing disappointment over the decision, Revanth Reddy said the sole objective of the proposed US visit was to attract globally reputed educational institutions to Telangana in line with the Centre’s National Education Policy and contribute to the vision of Viksit Bharat.

“I have always believed we should think beyond politics and elections when it comes to nation-building and the future of our youth,” the Chief Minister said.

During his stay in the UK, Revanth Reddy will continue scheduled interactions with leading institutions, including the University of Oxford, University of Cambridge, the London School of Economics, London Business School, and the University of London, aimed at exploring academic and research collaborations.

The Chief Minister reiterated his vision of transforming Hyderabad into a global knowledge hub by bringing world-class educational and skill development institutions to the city. He said Hyderabad’s strong educational ecosystem, strengthened by institutions such as Osmania University, the University of Hyderabad, IIT Hyderabad, IIIT Hyderabad, ISB and NALSAR, has helped attract global businesses and technology companies.

He also noted that Hyderabad Public School has produced globally recognised technology leaders, including Microsoft Chairman and CEO Satya Nadella, and said the state government would continue efforts to make Hyderabad a destination where Indian students can access world-class education without leaving the country.

Revanth Reddy is also scheduled to hold meetings with leading sports and skill development institutions in the United Kingdom to explore future collaborations for Telangana.
