14th Joint Working Group meeting focuses on border security, infrastructure and tackling cross-border crime

Dehradun, 21st Aug: India and Nepal reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation on border management and security during the 14th India-Nepal Joint Working Group (JWG) Meeting, held in Dehradun on August 20–21.
The Indian delegation was led by Pausumi Basu, Joint Secretary (Border Management-I), Ministry of Home Affairs, while the Nepali delegation was headed by Ananda Kafle, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of Nepal.
During the two-day meeting, both sides reviewed the full spectrum of bilateral cooperation on border management and security and discussed measures to further enhance coordination between the two neighbouring countries.
Key discussions focused on preventing trans-border crime and criminal activities, strengthening and optimising the use of border infrastructure, including Integrated Check Posts (ICPs), roads and railway connectivity, as well as addressing encroachments and ensuring the maintenance of boundary pillars.
The delegations also exchanged views on enhancing institutional coordination and capacity building across multiple sectors to improve border governance and facilitate smoother cooperation.
Both countries agreed to continue close engagement on these issues and decided that the 15th India-Nepal Joint Working Group Meeting will be held in Nepal on a mutually convenient date.
