Addressing the Rajya Sabha, the Prime Minister said the re-election reflects the House’s deep trust in Harivansh’s experience, inclusive approach and dignified conduct.

Modi noted the special significance of the occasion, as it coincides with the birth anniversary of former Prime Minister Chandra Shekhar, highlighting Harivansh’s close association with him.

He remarked that beginning a third term on this day adds deeper meaning to the achievement.

Recalling Harivansh’s career in journalism, the Prime Minister praised his impactful writing and commitment to high standards.

“His writing had sharp edges, but his speech and conduct always remained gentle and courteous,” Modi said, noting that his work reflected deep study and conviction.

The Prime Minister highlighted Harivansh’s punctuality, disciplined lifestyle and dedication to parliamentary responsibilities, noting that he maintains a full-time presence in the House.

He said this sets an example for all Members of Parliament.

Modi also underlined Harivansh’s outreach to youth, revealing that he has conducted over 350 programmes in colleges and universities since 2018 to inspire students with the vision of Viksit Bharat.

He praised initiatives funded through MPLADS, including research centres on endangered languages, earthquake engineering and artificial intelligence.

The Prime Minister also acknowledged Harivansh’s contributions to strengthening legislative institutions and representing India’s democratic values globally through forums like the Commonwealth Parliamentary Association.

Expressing confidence in the role of the House in the coming decades, Modi said presiding officers like Harivansh will play a crucial role in shaping India’s parliamentary future.
