Guwahati, 5th May: Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched a sharp attack on the Congress following the BJP-led alliance’s sweeping victory in the state Assembly elections.

Addressing party workers and the media, Sarma said the electorate had delivered a decisive response to the Opposition’s campaign narrative, taking a swipe at Congress leaders over their statements during the polls.

Describing the verdict as a “historic and emotional moment,” he credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Home Minister Amit Shah for transforming Assam’s image since 2016.

Sarma said the BJP-led alliance’s strong performance—crossing the 100-seat mark in the 126-member Assembly—reflected broad-based support cutting across communities.

He also claimed that sections of minority voters supported the BJP, underscoring what he described as growing trust in the party’s governance model.

The Chief Minister asserted that voters had endorsed the BJP as the only party capable of safeguarding Assamese identity while ensuring development.

Expanding the political context, Sarma termed the BJP’s victory in West Bengal as a “national victory,” adding that the party’s expanding footprint from eastern India to the Northeast would strengthen both development and regional security.

He also highlighted the strategic importance of the Siliguri Corridor, often referred to as the “Chicken’s Neck,” stressing the need for stability in the region.

Thanking party workers and supporters, Sarma said the strong mandate would enable the government to accelerate development initiatives in the coming years.
