New Delhi/Hyderabad, 2nd May: K Kavitha has proposed a major restructuring of India’s parliamentary framework, advocating a US Senate-style model for the Rajya Sabha as the nation debates future delimitation and representation reforms.

Kavitha argued that Lok Sabha constituencies should be redrawn strictly on population benchmarks, potentially increasing seats substantially in densely populated states.

However, she warned that such a shift could heavily tilt political influence toward larger states, undermining India’s federal equilibrium.

To address this, she proposed transforming the Rajya Sabha into a stronger Upper House with equal state representation, similar to the United States Senate, where every state holds uniform legislative weight regardless of population.

Under her framework, all states would receive fixed representation in the Rajya Sabha, allowing smaller states to better safeguard regional interests and prevent legislative imbalance.

Kavitha said the proposal would strengthen cooperative federalism while preserving national unity amid demographic disparities.

She plans to formally submit her recommendations to Prime Minister Narendra Modi.

The proposal comes as delimitation debates increasingly trigger concerns among southern and smaller states over future political marginalization.

Kavitha also emphasized that her Telangana Rakshana Sena will maintain a strong regional focus, prioritizing Telangana-centric issues.
