Manipur Police Get 477 New Vehicles Amid Hill Tensions

Imphal, 25th May: Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Monday flagged off 477 newly inducted police vehicles aimed at strengthening security, emergency response and law enforcement capabilities across the state.
The flagging-off ceremony was held at the First Battalion Manipur Rifles Parade Ground in Imphal.
According to an official statement, the new fleet has been inducted to improve police mobility, operational efficiency, public service delivery and restoration of law and order.
The development comes amid continuing tensions in the hill regions of Manipur involving sections of the Kuki and Naga communities.
Speaking to reporters, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh said the initiative is focused on strengthening police infrastructure in hill districts and improving emergency response mechanisms across the state.
He said peace and security cannot be maintained without strengthening the police force.
Referring to the ethnic violence that erupted on May 3, 2023, the Chief Minister said Manipur Police personnel had carried out their responsibilities with dedication and courage despite facing life-threatening situations.
“For example, incidents which began on May 3, 2023, Manipur Police had carried out major responsibilities with dedication and courage, often risking their own lives while working to prevent conflict and maintain peace,” he said.
The newly inducted fleet includes 100 Hero motorcycles, 39 Bolero B6 vehicles, 50 Bolero Neo vehicles, 74 Tata Yodha vehicles, 10 Mine Protected Vehicles, 20 Tata trucks, 30 Tata 407 vehicles, 20 Mahindra buses, 60 bulletproof Rakshak vehicles, 19 water tankers, 50 Bolero Camper vehicles and five HMR vehicles.
Officials said the deployment of specialised vehicles, including bulletproof and mine-protected units, is expected to significantly improve operational readiness in sensitive and difficult terrain areas.
The government said the expansion of police infrastructure forms part of broader efforts to stabilise the law and order situation in the state.
