New Delhi, 13th June: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday departed for a six-day visit to France and Slovakia, during which he will hold talks with French President Emmanuel Macron, participate in the G7 Summit and undertake the first-ever visit by an Indian Prime Minister to the Slovak Republic.

In his departure statement, Modi said the visit would further strengthen India’s strategic engagement with Europe and deepen cooperation in innovation, technology, trade and global governance.

The Prime Minister will begin his visit in France, where he is scheduled to meet President Emmanuel Macron in Nice. Referring to the elevation of India-France ties to a Special Global Strategic Partnership earlier this year, Modi said the two leaders would review progress made since Macron’s visit to India and discuss the next phase of bilateral cooperation as well as key global issues.

A major highlight of the visit will be the joint inauguration of Bharat Innovates 2026 on June 14. The event, being organised under the India-France Year of Innovation, will bring together Indian startups, higher education institutions, global investors and technology leaders to promote innovation-driven partnerships.

From France, Modi will travel to Slovakia for a State Visit from June 14 to 15. The visit is being described as historic as it will be the first visit by an Indian Prime Minister to Slovakia since the country’s independence in 1993.

During his stay in Bratislava, Modi will hold talks with Slovak President Peter Pellegrini and Prime Minister Robert Fico. He is also expected to interact with Slovak business leaders to explore opportunities for expanding economic and investment cooperation.

The Prime Minister said the visit would help strengthen India’s strategic partnership with the European Union, of which Slovakia is an important member, and build on the momentum generated by discussions on the proposed India-EU Free Trade Agreement.

Modi will then travel to Evian in France to participate in the G7 Summit on June 16 and 17. India has been invited to the G7 Summit for the eighth consecutive year, reflecting its growing role in global affairs.

The Prime Minister said India would use the platform not only to present its own perspectives but also to represent the concerns and aspirations of countries in the Global South.

The final leg of the visit will take Modi to Paris, where he will attend VivaTech 2026, one of Europe’s largest technology and innovation events. India will feature the largest national pavilion at the exhibition, showcasing the country’s rapidly growing startup and innovation ecosystem.

Modi is also expected to interact with members of the Indian diaspora in Paris, whom he described as a living bridge between India and France.

Expressing confidence about the outcomes of the visit, the Prime Minister said the engagements would reinforce India’s partnerships with Europe and the G7 nations while opening new avenues for cooperation across sectors.
