New Delhi, 19th Aug: President Droupadi Murmu on Wednesday urged Indian Information Service (IIS) officers to use social media platforms not only to inform and engage citizens but also to “listen, understand and respond” to their concerns, while asking Indian Statistical Service (ISS) officers to make official statistics more accessible to citizens, researchers and policymakers.

The President made the remarks while interacting with officer trainees of the Indian Information Service and Indian Statistical Service at Rashtrapati Bhavan.

Addressing the trainees, Murmu said both services play a vital role in strengthening governance by ensuring effective communication and credible information. She encouraged the young officers to remain committed to continuous learning, integrity and public service as technology, media and policymaking continue to evolve.

Highlighting the role of the Indian Information Service, the President said social media has transformed the way citizens receive and respond to information. She advised IIS officers to ensure that accuracy, credibility and public interest remain the guiding principles of government communication in the digital age.

Speaking to the Indian Statistical Service trainees, Murmu emphasised that reliable and timely data is essential for evidence-based policymaking. She reminded the officers that every dataset represents real people and urged them to make official statistics more accessible while helping build a trusted, technology-driven statistical ecosystem for Viksit Bharat.

The President said the authority entrusted to civil servants carries the responsibility of serving people with fairness, humility and dedication, and expressed confidence that both services would make significant contributions to India’s development journey.
