New Delhi, 10th April: Veteran leader Nitish Kumar took oath as a Rajya Sabha member on Friday, signalling his imminent exit from Bihar politics and paving the way for the formation of a new government in the state.

The oath was administered by Rajya Sabha Chairman C. P. Radhakrishnan during a brief ceremony attended by senior leaders across parties.

Among those present were Bihar Deputy Chief Ministers Vijay Kumar Sinha and Samrat Choudhary, BJP president Jagat Prakash Nadda, Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and Minister of State Arjun Ram Meghwal.

Leaders including Sanjay Kumar Jha, Jairam Ramesh, and Rajiv Pratap Rudy were also present.

Exit from Bihar Government
A day before the oath, Nitish Kumar had indicated that he would soon step down as Chief Minister, stating that he had completed much of his work in Bihar and would now focus on responsibilities in Delhi.

“I will resign in three or four days. New individuals will be appointed as Chief Minister and Ministers,” he said.

NDA’s Next Move
With Kumar’s exit imminent, the National Democratic Alliance is expected to elect a new Chief Minister on April 14, marking a significant transition in Bihar’s political landscape.

A Long Political Journey
Nitish Kumar, one of India’s most experienced politicians, began his career as an MLA in 1985 and later served as a Union Minister under Atal Bihari Vajpayee. He first became Bihar Chief Minister in 2005 and went on to become the state’s longest-serving leader.

His move to the Rajya Sabha signals a shift from state to national politics, potentially opening a new chapter in his long political career.
