Guwahati, 2nd May: Assam Chief Electoral Officer Anurag Goel has reaffirmed the integrity of Electronic Voting Machine (EVM) security arrangements across the state, stressing that strict protocols are being rigorously enforced at all counting and storage centres.
Addressing concerns over strong room monitoring, Goel said contesting candidates, election agents and authorized party representatives are permitted access up to designated CCTV surveillance zones as per Election Commission norms.
He clarified that only limited numbers of authorized individuals are allowed within monitoring areas at any given time, while direct access to strong room doors remains tightly restricted.
Goel emphasized that central observers, police personnel and election officials are operating under stringent identity verification and security procedures.
Responding to allegations raised in Golaghat constituency, he said the reported presence of authorized individuals within surveillance zones was found to be fully compliant with prescribed rules.
According to election authorities, EVMs across Assam are secured under multiple security layers, combining physical deployment, CCTV monitoring and continuous oversight by party representatives.
The reassurance comes amid heightened political sensitivity around electoral transparency and vote counting integrity.
Officials maintain that all protocols are designed to ensure trust, fairness and institutional credibility in the electoral process.
