New Delhi/ Kolkata, 2nd May: The Election Commission of India has significantly strengthened security and transparency measures for West Bengal’s Assembly election vote counting by deploying 165 Additional Counting Observers and 77 Police Observers.
The enhanced observer deployment is aimed at ensuring that counting proceedings remain peaceful, secure, intimidation-free and fully transparent.
Additional Counting Observers have been assigned to constituencies with multiple counting halls, while Police Observers will supervise external security and law-and-order arrangements around counting centres.
Under Election Commission directives, police observers are barred from entering counting halls but will coordinate closely with election officials to ensure compliance.
The Commission has also implemented strict QR code-based Photo Identity verification for all counting personnel, candidates and agents through the ECINET system.
Mobile phones will remain prohibited inside counting halls except for designated senior officials.
Further safeguards include independent cross-verification by micro-observers and transparent documentation of counting results in the presence of authorized agents.
The measures reflect heightened institutional vigilance amid politically sensitive West Bengal election results.
The Election Commission’s expanded oversight is designed to reinforce public confidence in the electoral process as counting day approaches.
