Chennai, 5th May: Actor-turned-politician Vijay faces a crucial numbers game after his party Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) emerged as the single largest force with 107 seats in the 234-member Tamil Nadu Assembly, falling just 11 short of the majority mark.

With the threshold set at 118, the focus has now shifted to post-poll negotiations, raising the possibility of a hung Assembly.

As the largest party, TVK is likely to be invited by the Governor to form the government, even if initially as a minority administration. Party leaders have expressed confidence in securing external support.

Potential backing could come from parties aligned with the DMK, including the Indian National Congress, the Left parties and the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi, which together hold a limited but crucial number of seats.

Such a move could trigger a realignment within the DMK-led alliance, particularly as the Congress had earlier explored pre-poll understanding with TVK.

Another possible support base is the Pattali Makkal Katchi (PMK), which has a small but significant presence in the Assembly.

However, any alliance with the AIADMK appears unlikely, given its alignment with the Bharatiya Janata Party, which Vijay has consistently opposed.

TVK leaders remain confident of forming the government, asserting that stability will not be an issue despite the numbers gap.

Vijay’s debut performance has reshaped Tamil Nadu politics, with the party making strong inroads into urban centres, including a dominant showing in Chennai.

The actor-politician himself secured victories from two constituencies, reinforcing his leadership position.

Sources indicate that the swearing-in ceremony could take place within days, even as negotiations continue behind the scenes to secure the required numbers.

The final outcome will depend on how effectively TVK navigates alliance dynamics in a politically fragmented Assembl
