New Delhi, 5th May: The Central Bureau of Investigation has secured the extradition of fugitive Mohammad Navas Kakkat Ismail from the United Arab Emirates, in a case linked to organised crime and impersonation of government officials.

Ismail, who was wanted by the Delhi Police, was brought to India and taken into custody upon arrival at the Indira Gandhi International Airport.

According to officials, he is a key conspirator in a racket involving extortion, cheating, criminal misappropriation and forgery, where victims were allegedly targeted through impersonation of government authorities.

The extradition followed the issuance of an Interpol Red Notice at the request of Delhi Police. The accused was subsequently located and arrested by authorities in the UAE.

Officials said that a formal extradition request was processed and pursued through coordinated efforts between Indian agencies and their counterparts abroad, leading to his return.

A Red Notice serves as an international alert for law enforcement agencies to locate and provisionally arrest individuals pending extradition.

The CBI noted that more than 150 fugitives have been brought back to India in recent years through similar international cooperation mechanisms.

The case will now proceed under the jurisdiction of Delhi Police for further investigation and legal action.
