Kolkata, 5th May: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday hailed the electoral verdict in Bhabanipur, stating that it reflects the consequences of what he described as “anarchic governance.”

In a post on social media, Shah praised voters of the constituency, saying their mandate sends a strong political message.

The reaction comes after Suvendu Adhikari defeated West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in the high-profile Bhabanipur seat by a margin of over 15,000 votes.

Bhabanipur, long considered a stronghold of the Trinamool Congress, has been central to Banerjee’s political career, making the result particularly significant.

The BJP has positioned the outcome as a broader reflection of voter dissatisfaction with the state government’s style of governance, emphasising themes of law, order and stability.

Shah’s remarks align with the party’s campaign narrative, which has consistently targeted the Trinamool Congress over issues of governance and political violence.

The result is being viewed as a symbolic shift in West Bengal politics, where electoral outcomes in key constituencies often carry wider political implications.

As the BJP continues to expand its footprint in the state, the Bhabanipur verdict is likely to be projected as a milestone in its challenge to Trinamool dominance.
