New Delhi, 12th June: Union Home Minister and Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah on Friday chaired a high-level security review meeting in New Delhi to assess preparations for the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra 2026 and directed agencies to ensure robust security and a seamless pilgrimage experience for devotees.
The annual pilgrimage to the holy Amarnath cave shrine is scheduled to be held from July 3 to August 28 this year.
The meeting was attended by Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Union Home Secretary, Chief of Army Staff, Director of the Intelligence Bureau, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Secretary and Director General of Police, Directors General of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs), and senior officials from the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Indian Army and the Union Territory administration.
Shah said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the government is fully committed to ensuring the highest level of security and smooth arrangements for pilgrims undertaking the Yatra.
The Home Minister directed all security agencies, including the Jammu and Kashmir Police and CAPFs, to work in close coordination and establish a multi-layered and impregnable security grid along the Yatra route. He stressed that the existing security framework should be strengthened through extensive deployment of drones, CCTV surveillance systems, advanced monitoring tools and other modern technologies.
He also instructed that senior officers from various CAPFs and the Jammu and Kashmir Police remain stationed at camp sites throughout the Yatra to continuously supervise and monitor arrangements.
Shah emphasized the need for adequate facilities for pilgrims, including registration, accommodation, healthcare services and disaster management preparedness. He directed officials to ensure that all essential services function smoothly during the pilgrimage period.
The Home Minister further instructed that the movement of pilgrim batches be regulated strictly in accordance with prevailing weather conditions and forecasts to ensure safety.
He also called for comprehensive security arrangements not only along the pilgrimage route but also at major tourist destinations across Jammu and Kashmir so that pilgrims can safely participate in tourism activities during their visit.
Officials informed the meeting that local persons and animals associated with Yatra-related activities will be registered and issued QR code-enabled identity cards. Health examination and fitness assessment camps will also be organized for animals engaged in pilgrimage operations.
The government said the measures are aimed at ensuring a safe, secure and hassle-free pilgrimage for lakhs of devotees expected to participate in the annual Yatra.
