New Delhi, 17th Aug: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Monday announced its new national team under party president Nitin Nabin, appointing a mix of seasoned leaders and emerging faces to steer the organisation ahead of crucial Assembly elections, including those in Uttar Pradesh and Punjab.
Former Union Minister Smriti Irani made a political comeback as one of the party’s eight national general secretaries, while senior RSS ideologue Ram Madhav was appointed as a national vice president. The appointments reflect the BJP’s strategy of combining organisational experience with youthful leadership.
The new team also gives significant representation to women, with the party ensuring a broader gender balance in key organisational positions. According to the BJP, nearly 40 per cent of the office-bearers belong to marginalised communities, reinforcing its outreach to socially diverse groups.
The leadership list reflects the party’s emphasis on regional representation. Rajya Sabha MP Phangnon Konyak from Nagaland and former Tripura Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb have been appointed national general secretaries, strengthening the BJP’s presence in the Northeast. From southern India, Andhra Pradesh BJP leader D. Purandeswari has been named a national vice president, while M. Venkatesan from Tamil Nadu has been appointed national secretary.
The party has also inducted professionals from academia and healthcare into its organisational structure. Dr. Swadesh Singh, a Delhi University professor and former ABVP activist, has been appointed national secretary. Renowned cancer specialist Dr. Madhuchandra Kar and Karnataka academic Prof. M. Nagaraj have been named national vice presidents.
The new organisational team also reflects generational diversity. Six office-bearers are below the age of 40, while 15 members fall in the 40–49 age group and 21 leaders are aged 50–59, highlighting the party’s attempt to blend youthful leadership with political experience.

Congratulating the newly appointed office-bearers, BJP president Nitin Nabin said the new team would provide fresh momentum to the organisation under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“With a blend of experience and energy, this team will give new momentum to the organisation under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. I am confident that every member, with the spirit of a dedicated karyakarta, will further strengthen the organisation to take forward the resolve of a ‘Viksit Bharat’ and the commitment to nation-building to new heights,” he said in a post on X.
