WASHINGTON – The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority on Friday informed that 579 people died in Nepal floods and 1,924 people still missing as of Friday evening.
Media reports stated that the death toll from devastating floods in Nepal rose to 579 on Friday, while at least 1,924 people are still missing, after ongoing rescue and relief efforts.
According to local media reports, 233 bodies were recovered from Chitwan district, 154 from Nawalparasi East, 46 from Gorkha and 40 from Dhading.
Over 37 dead bodies have been were recovered from Nuwakot, 30 from Tanahu, 27 from Nawalparasi West, and 12 from Rasuwa.
Chinese authorities said that 5 people have been killed in Gyirong County in the Tibet Autonomous Region.
The media reports stated that at least 1924 people, including 86 security personnel, 517 foreign tourists and 127 Nepali travellers, were reported missing since Wednesday morning when the flash floods hit Rasuwa and adjoining districts of Nepal.
Ministry of External Affairs informed that at least 320 Indians remain missing and 400 others are stranded on the Chinese side after devastating flash floods along the Nepal-Tibet border.
MEA spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said that 153 Indian nationals stranded on the Chinese side have safely crossed over to Nepal, while 21 Indians arrived in New Delhi this afternoon, a day after they reached Kathmandu from the flood-affected areas of Nepal.
Nepal has waived the trekking fee for foreign nationals returning from the Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage through the western Hilsa border point in Humla district for one week, media reported.
The Department of Immigration in a notice stated that the waiver applies to foreign pilgrims returning from the Kailash Mansarovar pilgrimage who had obtained departure permits from the Immigration Office in Rasuwa.
